Decalogue is a project for theatrical staging which has its source
of inspiration in the cinematographic work of the Polish director
Krzysztof Kieslowski.
The Ten Commandments have the force of
being laws capable of providing guidelines of values for every human
being within his own interiority and individuality, but also capable of
shaping social relations and the relationship between one individual and
another.
The need to make use of the theatrical means, within
its powerful immediacy and truth, to approach the flow of disturbances,
concerns, the desperate search and rediscovery of the values at the
basis of existence, the distressing metaphysical yearning, often
unconfessed, unconscious or even concealed of contemporary Man has
constituted the conditions that inspired the idea of the project and
which also represents its deep motive.
Decalogue Part 1,
Commandments from I to V will be articulated in five complete theatrical
plays, result of the dramaturgic elaboration of just as many original
subjects inspired by news stories, stories of humanity and everyday life
with deep symbolic and dramatic value.
In the dramaturgical
set up we wanted to avoid taking a confessional or moralistic stand, on
the contrary the intention was to offer and propose reflections on noble
and significant themes which imply involvement and identification from
the audience, allowing absolute freedom of position and interpretation.
The writing of the pièces was entrusted to two young authors: Mara Perbellini and Andrea Valagussa.
The
staging and the programming of Decalogue Part I will take place in the
stunning location of the San Salvatore Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage
Site.
The "closed" and completed structure of each pièce
allows spectators to enjoy the project partially or completely,
according to the possibilities and circumstances.
The company, very numerous, is characterized by the heterogeneity of the
components, all share important educational and professional courses of
depth, different backgrounds and cultural, ideological, spiritual and
thought experiences. All have contributed to the evolution of the
original unpublished dramaturgy, which, starting from robust and
effective structural foundations, maintains its profile of fiery magma
on the move. An extraordinary, complex and profound adventure of
theatrical research.
