MATTHEW AUCOINMatthew Aucoin is a composer, conductor, pianist, and poet. His next
opera has been commissioned by the American Repertory Theater, where it
will be directed by Diane Paulus in 2015. Aucoin is currently an
Assistant Conductor at the Metropolitan Opera, and he will make his
debut with the Orchestra del Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in the fall; he
has guest-conducted orchestras including the Longwood Symphony and the
Brattle Street Chamber Players. Aucoin is currently music-directing
Paulo Szot’s new one-man show, which will arrive in New York in August,
and composing new orchestral works for the Encounters Ensemble orchestra
and the Fire Island Opera Festival. His past operas have been performed
at The New York Composers Collaborative and the Loeb Drama Center. A
2012 graduate of Harvard College (summa cum laude), Aucoin has published
poems and essays in publications including The Boston Globe, The
Harvard Advocate, and The Colorado Review.
KEIR GOGWILTKeir GoGwilt was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and grew up in New York

This Same Light with the Encounters Ensemble. Keir has
performed recitals at the Century Club, Miller Theater, the Canadian
Opera Company, and in collaboration with Robert Levin on the world
premiere of Levin’s completion of a Mozart piano trio at the Sarasota
Opera House. Tzadik records will release Keir’s recordings of Tobias
Picker’s violin and chamber music, in collaboration with the Tobias
Picker Ensemble and the Brentano Quartet. A 2013 graduate from Harvard
in the literature department, Keir was awarded the Louis Sudler Prize in
the Arts. His senior thesis, "Performing Responsibility," considers the
implications of scientific studies of musicians’ technique for literary
theory and philosophy. Keir has studied with Lewis Kaplan, Christian
Tetzlaff, Ute Hasenauer, Jorie Graham, and John Hamilton among others.
PAULO SZOT
In his return to Spoleto, after his debut as Donato in Maria Golovin, Paulo Szot recently starred in the broadway revival of South Pacific at
Lincoln Center Theater and received several broadway awards in 2008:
TONY Awards, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theater World Award
as best actor in a musical for his portrayal of Emile de Becque.
The
Brazilian baritone made his acclaimed Metropolitan Opera debut as
"Kovalyov" in a new production of Shostakovich’s The Nose in 2010.
Career highlights include the role of Don Giovanni with Opéra de
Bordeaux, Michigan Opera, and the Dallas Opera; the title role of Eugene
Onegin, Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas) in
Marseille; Count Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) at New York City Opera,
Boston Lyric Opera, De Vlaamse Opera and Aix-En-Provence; Escamillo with
the Metropolitan Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Teatro Municipal de
Santiago, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro; Manon at the Metropolitan Opera.
Most
recently made his debut at Opera de Paris/Palais Garnier in Cosi fan
Tutte, Opera di Roma in The Nose and Alla Scala di Milano in A Dog’s
Heart.
He also performed at Carnegie Hall with the
New York Pops, Avery Fischer Hall with the New York Philharmonic
where he presented his acclaimed by critics and audience show An
Evening with Paulo Szot, also presented as part of the American
Songbook Series at Jazz at Lincoln Center and at the traditional Cafe
Carlyle in New York.
His upcoming engagements includes: The Nose at The Metropolitan Opera, Die Fledermaus at the Metropolitan Opera, Le Nozze di Figaro in Bahrein among others.
